The City of McKinney’s Apex Centre will host a Special Needs Swim Night from 7–9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13. During this event, the facility’s indoor leisure pool will be opened late to allow children (up to 17 years) with special needs, their caregivers and families to experience the pool and other special activities in a quieter atmosphere. Tickets are $7 per participant and online registration is encouraged.

“We hope this event provides a safe, welcoming place to bring kids to have a memorable and fun evening,” said Michael Kowski, Director of Parks and Recreation.

In addition to the Special Needs Swim Night, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department is working to provide more opportunities for children with special needs, such as the all-abilities playground currently under construction at Bonnie Wenk Park. The playground will accommodate children with special needs to play alongside other children of all ages and abilities. The park is scheduled to open this summer.

The Apex Centre is located at 3003 Alma Rd. Visit to register and for more information about membership, group classes and services offered. For more information on the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, visit
