McKinney Mayor George Fuller and Rotary District 5810 Governor Max Duplant joined the McKinney Rotary Club on Friday, October 22, 2021 to support the eradication of polio. Mayor Fuller issued a City of McKinney Proclamation to the McKinney Rotary President, Mark Potter. He proclaimed October 22, 2021 World Polio Day in McKinney, Texas and encouraged all citizens to join him and Rotary International in the fight for a polio-free world. 

Following the presentation, Mayor Fuller spoke to McKinney Rotarians and their guest(s) on the "State of the City". In his remarks, he shared the plan for future developments, city improvements and vision to be competitive in today's world. Thank you, Mayor Fuller!

President Mark Potter presented a $1500 check to District Governor Max Duplant to fight the battle against polio. Rotary International (RI) established the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in 1988 which today includes RI, World Health Organizations and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Rotary has contributed more than US$2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protecting more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries. This focused endeavor has decreased polio cases by 99.9 percent and the world stands on the threshold of eradicating the disease. 

There are over 1.2 million Rotary members in more than 35,000 clubs throughout the world that sponsor service projects. Service projects supported address critical issues as poverty, disease, hunger, illiteracy, and the environment in their local communities and abroad.The McKinney Rotary Foundation funds approved qualified service projects that have applied to the McKinney Rotary Foundation. The funds given are raised through the McKinney Flag Program and Rotary Christmas Parade of Lights.
