From now until Sept. 30, the public is invited to participate in a shoe collection drive to raise funds for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Donations of gently worn used and new shoes will be accepted. The amount of money raised is determined by the number of shoes collected. Shoes of all conditions and sizes are acceptable, including football, golf and bowling shoes, flip flops as well.

All donated shoes will be redistributed to microenterprise partners through Funds2Orgs, a for-profit social enterprise, and used in developing nations for impoverished people to start their own businesses.

Pickup will be held at various sites, according to Robin Wisthoff, who runs races and helps collect donations with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

“We’ll go anywhere in the Dallas-Fort Worth,” Wisthoff said. “I will come to a location convenient to them.”

You can call Wisthoff at 505-331-6910 or email for pickup.

In the United States alone, approximately 630 million pairs of shoes are thrown away per year. The materials used to manufacture a pair of shoes are created from chemical compounds that will create health hazards if left to disintegrate openly or in landfills. By donating your gently worn used and new shoes, your shoes are given a second chance to make a difference.
