McKinney, Texas — Sept. 6, 2018 — Earlier this month, The Samaritan Inn received a $500 donation from Landmark Bank, but it wasn’t your typical corporate charitable gift. The gift represents the choice of five Landmark Bank employees to “make a great day” for The Samaritan Inn.

The Make a Great Day program is a long-standing Landmark Bank tradition. Each month, a Landmark team is selected and invited to take an oath to "make a great day" for someone else, then he or she receives $100 to make it happen.

For the month of August, in celebration of the new branch’s opening on schedule earlier this year, five bankers from the McKinney branch were chosen to participate in the Make a Great Day program. Tiffany Graham, Eddie Ontiveros, Jamal Mack, Kurtis Clifton and Laura Glass chose to pool their $100 gifts and make a single donation of $500 to The Samaritan Inn, which provides comprehensive care to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, teaches self-sufficiency and life skills and provides people with the resources they need to build a future for themselves and their families.

Tiffany Graham and Marketing Manager Caitlin Christopher presented the check on behalf of the group.

“We chose The Samaritan Inn for our donation after hearing from our customers and others in the community how valuable the organization is to our county,” says Graham. “I didn’t expect to have such an emotional reaction – It was overwhelming to see the good work they are doing at The Samaritan Inn.”

The only homeless shelter in Collin County, The Samaritan Inn typically houses approximately 160 people each night, 60 of whom are children. In addition, the organization helps clients find work, save money, and find permanent housing, and provides children with school supplies.

“It takes a lot of individuals from the community and corporations to support our vital work with our most vulnerable neighbors struggling with homelessness,” says Rick Crocker, director and CEO of Samaritan Inn. “We are so grateful for the partnership with Landmark Bank and their generous support in helping people move from crisis to a place of thriving.”

“I ____________________ promise that I will use this incredible amount of money to make a great day for someone else. The only four rules for accepting this money are:

  • I will not use the money on myself.
  • I will not do anything to disgrace Landmark Bank's great name and reputation.
  • I will report back next month how I made a great day for someone else.
  • And whatever I do would make my mama proud.”

Started as a family business in the early 1900s, Landmark Bank began as a single branch in Mountain View, Missouri, and has since grown to serve customers in communities across Missouri, Texas and Oklahoma. In Texas, Landmark serves customers at branch locations in Collinsville, Denison, Frisco, Gainesville, Gunter, Pottsboro, Sherman, Van Alstyne, McKinney and Whitesboro.
