During the first weeks of warm weather, the Community Lifeline Center distributed 216 box fans to local residents in an effort to help them ‘beat the heat’ this summer. Fans were donated by TXU Energy, McKinney Noon Lions Club, the McKinney Ladies’ Association and St. Gabriel Catholic Church

Rain was forecast for the day of the event, so the CLC arranged for a drive-thru application process. Case Manager Delphia Adeogun said, “With the help of volunteers from TXU Energy, the McKinney Noon Lions and Town Square Buzz, we were able to put the items directly into their cars.”

The Community Lifeline Center is devoted to helping residents of north Collin County remain in their homes in spite of unexpected upsets for which they have no opportunity to prepare. Often, keeping up with utility payments is a problem for these families. So even if the home has air conditioning, circumstances require that the A/C be turned off in order to avoid running up the electric bill. If there are especially elderly or young members of the family, the heat is downright dangerous. The distribution of box fans helps keep the family cooler and the bills lower.

The CLC has collected donations of fans in the past. This year, approximately 80 families were assisted. Adoegun added, “For the first time, we actually ran out of box fans at noon.”

If you know of families who are struggling, please check on them in these hot summer months. You might suggest they contact staff at the Community Lifeline Center (972-542-0020) for assistance. While all the fans have been distributed, there are other kinds of help available. The staff and volunteers are ready to lend a helping hand.

About Community Lifeline Center

Community Lifeline Center (CLC) was born as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1989 when a group of churches determined it was best to work together in supporting and meeting the needs of people in need. We’ve evolved and grown over the years but our original purpose remains unchanged: to be the premiere place for providing assistance, information and referral services for the residents of McKinney and north Collin County. For more information, contact Community Lifeline Center, 1601 W. University Dr., Suite B, McKinney 75069. 972-542-0020 or communitylifeline.org.
