The 28th annual Pecan Grove Cemetery Memorial Day program begins at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 28, and the public is invited.
The cemetery, one of the oldest in North Texas, is located at 1701 S. McDonald St. in McKinney. Veterans are encouraged to wear their uniforms, and guests are invited to bring lawn chairs and an American flag.
The event will include an opening overture by the McKinney Community Band; remarks from McKinney Mayor Brian Loughmiller, Congressman Ralph Hall and Congressman Sam Johnson; a riderless horse tribute by the McKinney Police Department Mounted Patrol; bag pipers from the McKinney Fire Department; the playing of "Taps" and a flyover at 11:05 a.m.
Following the program, attendees are invited to stay for a community picnic barbecue prepared by Boy Scout Troop 303.
Organizers are looking for approximately eight to 10 more volunteers to help direct the parking in the cemetery that day. Volunteers would need to arrive at the cemetery at 7:30 a.m. May 28 to help direct incoming traffic until the event begins.
