Dance Fusion, an annual Collin College Department of Dance production, will feature works by three professional dance companies: Big Rig Dance Collective, Karen Stokes Dance (KSD) and Perpetual Motion Dance on Nov. 8-9 in the Collin College Spring Creek Campus John Anthony Theatre in Plano.
The Collin Dance Ensemble (CDE) is the resident student dance company at Collin College. Under the direction Collin College Chair of Dance Tiffanee Arnold, this vibrant company performs innovative contemporary modern dance with the goal of producing dance works at the highest level of artistic excellence. The company tours throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area performing in local concerts, festivals and lecture demonstrations.
The Dance Fusion concert is intended to expose students and the community to a variety of dance styles and companies, including CDE. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students, staff and senior citizens. They can be purchased online at collin.edu/dance.
According to Arnold, the event is an opportunity for students to work with notable university dance programs and see how an associate degree from Collin College will open doors to many of these four-year programs.
Shows will run as follows:
- Friday, Nov. 8 – 8 p.m.
- Saturday, Nov. 9 – 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Attendees can look forward to cutting-edge performances from CDE and the three dance companies. In 2013, CDE gave 45-minute lecture demonstrations in area high schools and elementary schools by integrating dance into other dance disciplines such as math, science, English, music, art and physical education. This program has been shared with over 1,300 students in the Collin County region. KSD became the first contemporary dance company in Houston to receive a Masterminds Award from the Houston Press, which recognizes progressive art makers in Houston.
