Collin College’s Communication and Humanities Department will wrap up its 2014-2015 Auteur Film Series with “Dead Poet’s Society” on Wednesday, April 15 at 7 p.m. at the Preston Ridge Campus Conference Center, 9700 Wade Blvd. in Frisco.
In the film, a new teacher’s unorthodox teaching style ruffles feathers at a conservative 1950s preparatory academy when he encourages students to see the world around them differently. Starring Robin Williams in one of his most iconic roles, “Dead Poet’s Society” shows how one teacher can change the life of his students if they choose to “seize the day.” At the 1990 Oscars, the film won Best Original Screenplay and earned Williams a Best Actor nomination.
Following the theme “Education and Other Dangerous Things,” the movies in this year’s Auteur Film Series deal with the effects of class, ethnic and cultural differences on education. A panel discussion featuring Collin College faculty and staff will follow the film.
The screening is free and open to the public. Doors open 30 minutes before the film begins and seating is limited. Some material may not be suitable for all audiences.
