Collin College student Joel Mason was recently elected as the Texas Junior College Student Government Association (TJCSGA) president, making him the first student in the college’s history to serve in the role.
Comprising leaders from among 72 junior colleges in the state of Texas, Mason’s election is a notable achievement. His term will run for the 2014-2015 academic year.
Mason said he considers it a great honor to serve as TJCSGA president, noting the unwavering support of Collin College and Dallas Fort-Worth Region II leadership and student governments.
“My goal is to eventually set a more direct path in place for students to reach the Texas legislature in order to lobby for our interests and concerns,” he said. “As the second student from this school to serve on the State Executive Board in the last two years, I'm proud to say that Collin College can continue its leadership in representing the needs of students around the state.”
Mason currently serves as the 2013-2014 Collin College Student Government Association (SGA) president and is also involved with the Region II SGA for the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
