The sole community college amongst 11 nominees, the Collin College Engineering Technology Department was recently named the winner of the Tech Titans of the Future – University Level award, the most prestigious award in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for technology and technology educators, by the Metroplex Technology Business Council.

The Tech Titan program recognizes an accredited educational institution in the Metroplex that encourages and supports students to choose engineering and technology-related disciplines as a preferred career path. In addition to the recognition, the award comes with a $25,000 prize.

“Our faculty and staff are proud to have been recognized for our contributions in science, technology, engineering and math education,” said Dave Galley, director of engineering technology. “Through the work of Gena Martin, the faculty and myself, we have made significant contributions to technical dual credit in the high schools and increased the number of students coming to Collin College and pursuing STEM fields of study.”

Nomination for the award requires testimonials from two current or former students, educators or other individuals who have excelled or benefited from the program. Collin College was nominated through a combined effort from Cisco Systems and Wylie ISD, with support letters from the University of Texas at Dallas and five of the seven school districts with which the program partners.

“Other finalists for the award were major four-year institutions with terrific programs,” Galley emphasized. “Our approach was not about one program, but working on the entire STEM pipeline, from high school to graduation from Collin College and, finally, industry. We appreciate the support of all our four-year institutional partners in that regard.”
