Charlene Lake, senior vice president of public affairs and chief sustainability officer at AT&T, will address Collin College graduates as the 2013 commencement speaker, beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 17 in the Allen Event Center, located at 200 E. With AT&T, Lake is responsible for leading philanthropic and volunteer endeavors, as well as serving business objectives through public affairs support. Prior to her role with AT&T, Lake worked in a leadership and management position at Southwestern Bell Telephone in Kansas, Missouri and Texas. Her areas of expertise range from financial communications to employee relations.
As a member of her community, Lake serves on the Collin College Foundation Board of Directors, the Board of Directors for America’s Promise Alliance, the Corporate Advisory Board of Women Impacting Public Policy, the Council of Advisors of the Institute for Economic Empowerment for Women and the Marketing Committee of the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas.
Graduates at the ceremony will have earned a variety of awards, including an Associate of Arts, Associate of Arts in Teaching, Associate of Science and Associate of Applied Science degrees and certificates. Honors will be awarded to students based on the follow academic grade point averages:
4.0 – Summa cum laude
3.75-3.99 – Magna cum laude
3.5-3.74 – Cum laude
More than 500 students are preparing to walk in celebration of graduation. Collin College was established in 1985, with 12 graduates in its first class.
