According to a press release, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) kicks off a project to continue the expansion of US 380 through Collin County.

The project will improve traffic flow and enhance safety by expanding the two-lane rural roadway to a four-lane divided urban highway with improved shoulders. This is one of four projects on US 380 between Custer Road and the Hunt County Line. This newest section is between County Road 608 and Floyd Road in Farmersville.

The first phase of construction will begin with the construction of the Kansas City Southern Railroad passing track bridge over US 380 just west of Main Street. After the passing track bridge is constructed, the existing main track bridge will be demolished and replaced. Bridge construction will account for the first half of the work on the project and the roadwork will be the second half.

The project is expected to be complete in the summer of 2014. Daily lane closures during off-peak hours can be expected and portable message boards will be stationed to inform the public traveling through the area.

Ed Bell Construction Company was awarded the $18.1 million project.

TxDOT would like to thank area drivers for their patience and cooperation as crews work diligently to complete this vital project as soon, and as safely, as possible.
