Parents who need help providing their children with breakfast and lunch when school is out are invited to Slaughter and Malvern elementary schools this summer.

The Summer Food Program will serve nutritious meals to all children under the age of 18, for free -- because hunger doesn't take a vacation.

A hot breakfast and lunch will be offered June 4 to Aug. 10 at Slaughter Elementary.

Location: Slaughter Elementary School, 2706 Wolford St. in McKinney

  • Breakfast: 8 to 8:30 a.m.
  • Lunch: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

A similar program will be offered June 11 to July 26 at Malvern Elementary.

Location: Malvern Elementary School, 1100 Eldorado Parkway in McKinney

  • Breakfast: 8 to 8:30 a.m.
  • Lunch: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

(The meal program at both schools will be closed the week of July 4.)

Children are invited to hang out with their friends while they eat.

This service is provided through the Texas Department of Agriculture's school nutrition education, and outreach program funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service.
