George Fuller elected Mayor of McKinney

McKINNEY, Texas (May 6, 2017) – Today McKinney residents cast their ballots in the general election to vote for four City Council representatives. The Mayor, District 1, District 3 and one At Large seat were contested by 16 total candidates. District 1 and 3 representatives were chosen by the voters in their respective districts and all McKinney voters were able to cast votes for the representative for the Mayor and At Large positions.

To be elected to City Council, a candidate must receive a majority of votes in the general election, or more than 50 percent of the total vote. All results are unofficial and courtesy of the Collin County Election Administrator.

Mayor

According to the unofficial results, George Fuller has won the Mayor seat, earning 6510 votes, or 58.65 percent of the total. Fuller defeated Randall (Randy) Pogue, who earned 4150 votes or 37.39 percent of the total and Danny Bishop, who earned 439 votes or 3.96 percent of the total.

District 1 Run-off

According to the unofficial results, there will be a run-off election for the District 1 seat, and voters will elect either Dusttin Pearson or La’Shadion Anthony Shemwell to the City Council District 1 seat on June 10, with early voting May 30-June 6. Pearson earned 490 votes, or 42.13 percent of the total. Shemwell earned 466 votes, or 40.07 percent of the total.

The run-off election only includes the candidates who received the top two vote totals. One other candidate also ran but will not appear on the ballot in the run-off election.

  • Johnny Moore earned 207 votes or 17.80 percent of the total

District 3 Run-off

According to the unofficial results, there will be a run-off election for the District 3 seat, and voters will elect either Scott Elliott or Margaret Harsch to the City Council District 3 seat on June 10, with early voting May 30-June 6. Elliott earned 1296 votes, or 40.65 percent of the total. Harsch earned 791 votes, or 24.81 percent of the total.

The run-off election only includes the candidates who received the top two vote totals. Three other candidates also ran but will not appear on the ballot in the run-off election.

  • Sheila Johnson earned 526 votes or 16.50 percent of the total
  • Jeremiah Hammer earned 443 votes or 13.9 percent of the total
  • Gavin Nicholson earned 132 votes or 4.14 percent of the total

At Large Run-off

According to the unofficial results, there will be a run-off election for the At Large City Council seat, and voters will elect either Charlie Philips or Derek V. Baker to the City Council At Large seat on June 10, with early voting May 30-June 6. Philips earned 4392 votes, or 46.10 percent of the total. Baker earned 2258 votes, or 23.7 percent of the total.

The run-off election only includes the candidates who received the top two vote totals. Three other candidates also ran but will not appear on the ballot in the run-off election.

  • Michael Jones earned 1716 votes or 18.01 percent of the total
  • Thomas “TJ” Reilly earned 774 votes or 8.12 percent of the total
  • Kevin M. Smallwood earned 387 votes or 4.06 percent of the total
