McKINNEY (June 2, 2015) — The City of McKinney has launched an interactive online tool to make financial information easier for citizens to access and increase efficiency for staff presenting the budget and financial information to city officials and to residents. The tool, powered by OpenGov, is now available on the city website.
The new interactive financial reporting tool was presented to City Council during a work session. This tool improves the overall financial transparency of the city by providing financial data that can be sorted based on user interests. When accessing the website, users will find graphs and charts that are easy to understand. In addition, some commonly requested reports are already saved, like financial data from the McKinney National Airport. Features will continue to be added to the tool in the coming months.
“We are really proud to offer this new tool that empowers our residents to find the information they are looking for in an easily accessible way. A wide range of financial data is loaded to the site monthly, allowing visibility into virtually every city budgetary item,” said Chief Financial Officer Rodney Rhoades.
The interactive financial tool furthers the goal of transparency and adds to a long list of measures like the Open Government section of the website, live and archived videos of City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission meetings with searchable closed captions and other regular financial updates online including check registers.
Recently, the city was honored for achieving the highest level of financial transparency awarded by the state comptroller’s office four years in a row, meaning the Financial Services Department has already been successful in maintaining open and clear online financial data for the public.
The new interactive tool helps staff members across all city departments access and share regularly updated budgetary information, and it allows for Finance Department staff to quickly build reports for city management and the City Council.
