McKinney City Council member David Brooks announced Tuesday he will not seek reelection this May.

Brooks has been on the city council since 2009, holding one of two at-large seats. He made the announcement at the end of the City Council's regular meeting. He said he will finish the remaining four months of his term to the best of his ability.

Brooks is chairman and CEO of McKinney-based Independent Bank Group, which operates 20 bank locations across north and central Texas.

Prior to his time on the City Council, Brooks was on the McKinney Chamber of Commerce board, spent three years with the McKinney Economic Development Corporation and served five years as president of the McKinney ISD Board of Trustees.
