Thornton will fill District 1 seat left vacant following recall election in November

McKINNEY, TX – McKinney City Council appointed Pastor Christopher “Chris” Thornton to fill the District 1 seat left vacant following the recall vote of La'Shadion Shemwell in November. Thornton will hold the position until the next City Council election in May.

Thornton is a lifelong McKinney resident. He is the Associate Pastor at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in McKinney and the Pastor of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Colbert, Oklahoma. He and his wife Mona have been married 26 years and have four children and two grandchildren.

Thornton is a 1982 graduate of McKinney High School and holds the distinction of being the first African-American student to be elected Class President. After high school, he served in the United States Air Force.
