City meetings will soon be streamed live in HD quality
Starting July 19, the City of McKinney Council Chambers will undergo renovations to update its audio-visual equipment to provide high quality video streaming online. With the new upgrades, residents and stakeholders will be able to view live city meetings not only through their cable provider or online, but also on tablet and mobile devices. The project will be funded though payments the city receives from the Public, Education and Government Channel Funding program.
When the renovations in the Council Chambers are completed, a new projection system will display presentation materials during the meetings and flat panel screens in the lobby will allow overflow crowds to clearly see and hear the meeting in progress. In addition to visual upgrades, a hearing assistance system to help those with hearing difficulties will be available upon request.
While the renovation upgrades are in process, all meetings planned after July 19 will be moved to alternate locations. All City Council and Planning & Zoning Commission meetings will be held at the Collin County Commissioners Court and board meetings for the McKinney Economic Development Corporation and the McKinney Community Development Corporation will be held at the John & Judy Gay Library. All meetings will still be aired live on Spectrum Cable, Ch. 16 and AT&T U-Verse, Ch. 99. The meetings will also continue to be rebroadcast throughout the week on air and online.
“The renovation of the McKinney Council Chambers will not only have a visual facelift from a construction standpoint but also from a technology point of view,” said Sid Hudson, Chief Information Officer. “The system we currently have in place is outdated and unreliable, but this new system will be packaged to work seamlessly together and offer more efficient and higher-quality programming for our residents.”
