McKINNEY (Dec. 9, 2015) — There's a new girl in town, and she's spinning records and bringing a funky new vibe to Historic Downtown McKinney.

Miss Henny Penny's Groovy Coop is unlike other spots on the square, namely that it's a female-owned record and vintage shop, but the Groovy Coop isn't just a music store. It has an extensive collection of vintage vinyl, mid-century modern furniture, and throwback home décor that nostalgic dreams are made of. There's also a kids' section full of rock & roll clothing, accessories and funky baby gifts.

Katie Scott, the owner and persona behind Miss Henny Penny, opened this shop in August as a co-op to bring together local vendors who have something unique to provide McKinney and surrounding communities. But she also wants people to feel a sense of nostalgia as they meander through the store. “I've already made three people cry – but in a good way. It reminds people of their parents' or grandparents' home growing up, and that's the connection I want them to feel,” Scott said.

In the back of the store sits a groovy alcove full of men's and women's vintage clothes, hats and accessories. Set up to feel like a funky lounge, this spot spins its own set of jazzier music and an additional selection of vintage records from the classical, big band and jazz eras.
