Buy Local – McKinney First! is a program of the McKinney Chamber of Commerce and is funded in part by the McKinney Community Development Corporation. The mission is to educate residents and businesses of the benefits of buying local. For every $100 spent in McKinney with local merchants $68 stays here to be reinvested. When you buy local, we all win.

This year a Buy Local – Twelve Days of Christmas program was held Dec. 1 – 12, where participating merchants offered a special or discount for up to twelve days.

Shoppers could then register to win by visiting one of the twelve participating merchants, take a picture while in the shop and upload the image to the Buy Local Facebook page.  Participants were entered to win a $250 holiday shopping spree with any McKinney chamber member business!

The lucky winner was Lisa Hammett who lives in the historic district and loves shopping and dining with her husband in Downtown McKinney.

The shoppers and participating merchants alike benefited from this program. Andy Doyle, owner of McKinney Wine Merchant said, "McKinney Wine Merchant was selected as Day No. 2 of The 12 Days of Christmas – Buy Local program. Business was tripled compared to an ordinary Sunday. As an independent, local business owner, with no shortage of competition from national and regional chain stores, I was heartened by the support and well wishes from all the folks who came in. I hope I can reserve a space for next year!"

Jodi LaFreniere Ray, McKinney Chamber President, said, “We are so pleased our program was a success. We do indeed all win when you buy local. We would like to extend thanks to all shoppers and participating merchants for recognizing the value of buying local.”
