The Werx in McKinney held its official re-opening and showcase event on Thursday night (April 30, 2015) at its location in The Cotton Mill in Historic Downtown McKinney.

The event was held to showcase the new office space, share information about programs and new structure, and celebrate the ongoing efforts to assist startups and entrepreneurs build and grow their businesses in McKinney. This event also was designed to showcase some cool technology and unique eco-system located at The Werx.

Over 100 people were estimated to be in attendance . The atmosphere was lively, like a party, and people were quite impressed with how it was laid out, several saying they wished they worked there.

There was music, food and beverages at the event, courtesy of generous donations of sponsorship partners of The Werx, including the Sheraton McKinney Hotel and Conference Center, TUPPS Brewery and First United Bank.

The Werx, formerly called The Collide Center, is a co-working facility and business incubator, which focuses primarily on companies in emerging technology and entrepreneurs in the community.

Start-ups are often boot-strapping it until revenue or funding is obtained, and it is the goal and vision of The Werx to help with the overhead during this phase of starting a company, by offering extremely affordable rates to meet everyone's budget. The Werx provides an open workspace for entrepreneurs to rent desk space for an affordable rate. In addition, The Werx is committed to providing education and mentoring to assist as well, through relationships, presentations and events. The McKinney Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and its Emerging Technology Program has been instrumental in the success and initiative of The Werx center.

“Tonight was about inviting the community out to see the progress and learn about The Werx in McKinney is all about,” said John Valencia of MEDC. “We’ve had tremendous support and this event gave us the opportunity to say ‘Thank You’ and to look forward to more in The Werx!”
