Who are you and what is the name of your business?

My name is Keith Lewis and the name of my business is TUPPS Brewery.  The name of the business came from my business partner Tupper Patnode. We thought it sounded cool and the name just stuck.

What inspired you to start your business?

I have always loved beer and became an avid homebrewer after my wife got me a beer making kit for Christmas!

What services or products do you offer?

TUPPS Brewery is a full-production brewery, we make all our beer in our manufacturing facility located in McKinney. You can come to our taproom for a tour and grab a beer or two or you can purchase our beer in stores around DFW, Austin, San Antonio and Oklahoma.

What is unique about your business?

We are a family business! My three kids work for TUPPS. We support the community and love our fans.

How does your business give back to the community?

We currently have a beer out right now called Trailhead American Ale. A portion of the sales from that beer is going to The Warrior’s Keep Foundation which helps Vet’s that have returned from active duty. We are also working on a beer for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Not only do we partner with charities to produce beer, but we host charities and fundraising events in our taproom on a weekly basis. Some upcoming events we have are:

What obstacles did you have to overcome to get to where you are today?

We have accomplished a great deal with a small staff which has caused many long hours. But our team is very committed and realize it will all be worth it in the long run.

What methods have you used to grow your business?

We have great business management tools that help streamline operations and keep us on track.  We also have excellent distribution partners that get our products from the brewery to our customers.

What is the secret to keeping happy customers?

Making them feel a part of the process and a part of the family!  We have more than customers, we have fans.  We focus heavily on sales and marketing to keep our fans informed and happy.

Who has been your greatest inspiration?

My family, my wife, kids and five grandkids…. They are the best!

What is your most/least favorite thing about your business?

  • Most favorite = working with my 3 kids
  • Least favorite = not having enough tanks space to keep up with production

Where do you see your business going in the future?

We are purchasing more tanks to brew more beer and continue to expand production to keep our fans happy!

To what do you attribute your success?

My background in marketing and sales, my passion for good beer and my creative mind to make TUPPS stand out from all the rest!

What’s the best advice you would give someone thinking of starting their own small business?

Deep breaths. Have a beer!
