What is your name and what is the name of your business?
What inspired you to start your business?
I saw a lot of physical therapy offices that didn’t even touch their patients (no hands on care) and knew it could be done much better.
What services or products do you offer?
We treat just about all painful conditions related to muscle, bone and soft tissue. We offer Medical massage, stretching, dry needling, ergonomic/body mechanics training, and have advanced technology (Anti-gravity treadmill, Blood Flow Restriction, Sparta movement analysis).
What is unique about your business?
Most of our patients are surprised by how much better they feel after treatment based on a previous experience where the physical therapy they received hurt them. Our response, “That’s why you are here…to feel better.” We don’t have to hurt you to make you better. In fact, on many occasions, the last thing we want to do is increase your inflammation as this can just set you back further.
How does your business give back to the community?
We love to give back to McKinney. Our favorites include the Samaritan Inn and local churches. We offer charitable services to the local high schools in an effort to prevent injuries in the young athletes of our community.
What obstacles did you have to overcome to get to where you are today?
As McKinney has grown, so have the number of physical therapy clinics, chiropractic offices, and specialty alternative medicine offices. However, what remains our primary obstacle is the pain pill. Too many people want a quick fix rather than the natural solution to their pain and injury. Education of the public is needed to help them understand that investing in your health through physical therapy is the best way to address your symptoms.
What methods have you used to grow your business?
We have used print advertising, Yelp, Google Reviews, and t-shirts. We hope that many you have seen some EDGE T-shirts out in the community.
What is the secret to keeping happy customers?
Love what you do and make sure that the patients feel loved and cared for. In modern medicine, time and, sometimes, listening are compromised. Listening is critical to achieving a happy customer.
What is your most/least favorite thing about your business?
Paperwork. We are required to document each and every visit. I love working with people and getting them to feel better (my favorite thing) and many times it can take away from that.
Where do you see your business going in the future?
We continue to evolve new ways to make people feel better through scientific advancements. The research is continuously revealing “best practices” and we modify and invest according to that research.
To what do you attribute your success?
Hard work, “wholuck” (the people I have been lucky to meet and learn from along the way including my wife), and a thriving community like McKinney.
What’s the best advice you would give someone thinking of starting their own small business?
Find a mentor…someone that has done what you have done before. They will have amazing insights for you if you are willing to listen.
What’s the best advice you would give a new chamber member to get the most out of their membership?
If Robin emails you with an opportunity, take advantage of it. 😊
