U.S. Congressman Sam Johnson has announced the 2012 Congressional Veteran Commendation (CVC) for the Third District of Texas, a nominations-based program designed to publicly recognize the wartime sacrifices and peacetime community involvement of U.S. military veterans.
The veterans selected as this year's CVC recipients must be exceptional Americans in every way -- warriors for our nation and heroes within the local community.
Honorees will be announced and recognized at a special ceremony in November 2012 and will also be offered the opportunity to be formally interviewed for the Library of Congress' Veterans History Project.
Please take a moment to nominate any and every deserving veteran you know for this accolade. To be eligible, verterans must currently reside in the Third Congressional District. Nominees must have served as active duty military personnel or been reservists called to active duty, and they must be retired or honorably discharged from a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. (To verify if the veteran is currently in the Third Congressional District, go online to www.house.gov and enter the veteran's ZIP code in the box titled "Find your representative.")
Anyone can serve as a nominator and submit as many nominations as they would like by completing the appropriate form found at www.samjohnson.house.gov. Self-nominations are also accepted.
Completed nominations packs should be delivered, mailed or faxed to Johnson's local office (2929 N. Central Expy, Ste. 240, Richardson, Texas 75080) no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31.
Any questions may be addressed to Caity Post, 972-470-0892 or email@example.com.
"I look forward to learning more about the many heroes among us here in the Third Congressional District of Texas," Johnson said in a letter about the CVC program. "Thank you for considering what part you play in telling their stories and preserving their legacy of freedom."
