The Sheraton McKinney Hotel opened its doors in late February, marking the debut of the city’s first full-service, upscale major hotel, ushering in a new era of expansion for Collin County.
The $38 million hotel and event center features 187 guest rooms, 10 suites and has 20,000 square feet of meeting space with a 7,630-square-foot ballroom.
The Sheraton McKinney represents the new prototype for Sheraton, featuring a modern, sleek design that is expected to attract the everyday business traveler, and spacious double rooms appealing to families looking to visit North Texas.
The Sheraton event center’s flexible meeting space includes the ballroom and breakouts with natural lighting and outdoor terrace space. The hotel will feature a hospitality suite with a balcony perfect for an intimate event. The open layout is designed as a place to connect for business and leisure travelers.
Divisible into five sections, the ballroom is complemented by a 4,859-square-foot wraparound pre-function area. Guests and clients can choose from five meeting rooms that total 3,432 square feet or opt for the boardroom that seats 12.
Targeting Major Groups
Sheraton has a team of planning professionals that will work with individuals or organizations to help stage a memorable event. The facility’s breakout spaces provide natural lighting, lineless tables and clean crisp decor for events.
“We want to target major groups ranging from corporate customers to associations coming in from outside the DFW market,” said Johnny Martinez, director of sales and marketing of Sheraton McKinney. “We want the local businesses to partner with us and keep their events in McKinney.
“The city has done a phenomenal job of building up its reputation for being a leader in the DFW area to live and work, and our goal is to now make it an even greater place to visit.”
Martinez said Sheraton wants to show travelers why locals love their city and give groups coming in from anywhere in the U.S. a taste of McKinney.
“We can provide an exceptional experience at our property, and the City of McKinney can provide unique eateries and venues,” he said. “With a partnership like that, it will make our hotel a hot spot for groups coming from out of town and for locals wanting to utilize the kind of large-scale hotel they have been waiting on.”
McKinney’s historic character naturally draws an influx of tourists and new residents. With the growing array of shops, eateries and events, the area needed to provide a hotel that upheld this image. Enter the Sheraton McKinney hotel. As the only full-service property in the area, and offering amenities and meeting space that is currently unavailable, the Sheraton will fill the growing need in the region.
Construction moved rapidly on the Sheraton, as crews prepared for the grand opening in late February.
Martinez said Sheraton carefully considered options for where to locate its newest hotel, but McKinney was a natural choice. He said the spotlight is shining especially bright on McKinney right now, with its recent ranking by Money Magazine of #1 Best Place to Live in America.
“McKinney consistently scores high in all facets of lifestyle,” he said. “Education, arts and culture, safety, health care, diversity and an ever-expanding economy here are all first class. In a country so full of great places, McKinney’s homey Southern charm, intertwined with a bustling corporate climate, made it a no-brainer for this much-needed addition to the area.”
Conveniently located at the intersection of State Highways 75 and 121, Sheraton McKinney Hotel is convenient for business travelers visiting for a day of meetings or for families looking for a fun getaway.
