McKINNEY (March 25, 2014) — NerdWallet, a consumer advocacy website, recently conducted a study to find the fastest growing cities in Texas – and McKinney ranked among the top 20.

“McKinney’s strong population and income growth helped support the city’s ranking on our list,” NerdWallet analyst Maggie Clark said. “The population in McKinney increased by 12.9 percent between 2009 and 2012 and incomes grew by 4.1 percent during the same period.”

In business, population and income, there’s no doubt that Texas is on the rise. Texas experienced more high-paying job growth than the rest of the country over the last 13 years according to new research from the Dallas Federal Reserve. The state has also been the top domestic immigration destination in the country since 2006. Businesses are coming to Texas in droves, hiring new employees and raising salaries for existing workers.

The study based its rankings on the following criteria:

  • Population Growth
  • Employment Growth
  • Income Growth

“We are finding that more and more people and corporations are choosing McKinney over other cities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area,” said Jim Wehmeier, President/CEO of McKinney Economic Development Corporation. “McKinney’s business environment, quality of life, robust transportation system including McKinney National Airport and exceptional education system make it the optimal location.”

McKinney National Airport, a premier airport for business aviation along with FBO McKinney Air Center, offer a wide variety of facilities including 24-hour fuel and ramp services, courtesy crew cars, flight planning and weather facilities, on-site auto rental, private crew lounge, and U.S. Customs on-site. The city has invested in numerous upgrades so the airport provides added convenience for anyone looking to do business in McKinney.

McKinney’s proximity to DFW International Airport, Dallas Love Field and McKinney National Airport make it an ideal location for business and executives. The Sam Rayburn Tollway has made it an easy commute, about 25 minutes, to DFW International Airport. For more information about the city of McKinney visit the city’s website at
