The Main Street bridge over US 380 in Farmersville will remain closed after a dump truck with the bed raised hit the bridge Tuesday (Feb. 5) night, knocking off an outside bridge beam.

The bridge is located within the limits of a construction project to widen US 380 from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway from west of County Road 608 in Farmersville to east of Floyd Road.

The bridge was due to be closed this year anyway because part of the project on US 380 is the demolition and reconstruction of the Main Street bridge in order to accommodate the wider highway. The bridge will be demolished in the coming month or sooner.

Construction of the new bridge may take until the end of the year.
