Collin College was named the Outstanding Business of the Year by the McKinney Chamber of Commerce at the 2019 McKinney Community Awards Celebration, Feb. 22.
The Outstanding Business of the Year award is presented to a business which has enhanced the economy of McKinney through the successful, long-term, and profitable operation of their business. Collin College was acknowledged for exhibiting community involvement, innovative leadership, and exemplifying outstanding customer service.
“Innovation and Involvement are two of the core values we are passionate about at Collin College,” said Collin College President Dr. Neil Matkin. “It is gratifying to know the community values the college’s contribution to the continued growth and well-being of McKinney and all of Collin County.”
The event took place at the McKinney Sheraton. Some of the past winners of the Outstanding Large Business of the Year include: Medical Center of McKinney, Raytheon, McKinney Independent School District and Methodist McKinney Hospital.
“Collin College has been a tremendous partner for the business community,” said Lisa Hermes, president and CEO of the McKinney Chamber of Commerce. “They listen to the needs of businesses and develop programs and training opportunities to help develop the right skills for a strong workforce. Collin has a strong reputation for exceptional faculty and training while being excellent stewards of our tax dollars.”
Collin College serves more than 55,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degrees and certificates. The only public college based in Collin County, Collin College is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and work force development. In addition, the college operates the Collin Higher Education Center, which has an enrollment of 3,500 each year in partnership with The University of Texas at Dallas, Texas Woman’s University, Texas A&M Commerce, Texas Tech and the University of North Texas.
