A Chamber member since 2013,  Rhelda Bailey, owner of Rhelda's McKinney Merle Norman Cosmetics shares her business insights.

What inspired you to start your business?

I love helping other people look and feel good about themselves. I was an employee of the McKinney studio for 30 years. After wishing, hoping and praying of having my own studio I was able to purchase the McKinney Studio in 2013.

What services or products do you offer?

Skincare and color products. We also offer facial steamers, makeovers. We have 8 different skincare formulas and 14 foundatin formulas.

What is unique about your business?

We offer try before you buy. This cosmetic is the only business left that started Westgate shopping center 46 years ago.

How does your business give back to the community?

We provide donations for special events and for or five times a years we offer gifts with purchase.

What obstacles did you have to overcome to get where are today?

Determining advertising and creating a comprehensive business plan.

What methods have you used to grow your business?

More emails and investing with the Chamber. We have customer birthday discounts. We explain to our customers that our products contain vitamins, peptides and that most are oil free. We take the time to listen to their needs so that we can recommend the best products for their concerns.

What is the secret to keeping happy customers?

Sincere service and personal attention to each customer. We acknowledge each person as soon as they walk through the door with a smile and a hello.

Who has been your greatest inspiration?

Merle Norman. Merle founded the company in 1931 and would go door to door passing out samples of her skincare which was a skin protection from the sun. Long before SPF was available in cosmetics. She founded the company with three products; cleansing cream, miracle mask, and powder base foundation, all of which are available today.

What is your least favorite thing about your business?

Taxes

Where do you see your business going in the future?

UP, UP, UP! We are increasing each year.

To what do you attribute your success?

Honesty and service to our customers. Being a member of the chamber and prayer.

Advertisment by the Chamber.

What’s the best advice you would give a new chamber member to get the most out of their membership?

Make contributions to the newsletters and provide information to new residents concerning your business.
