DALLAS (March 12, 2014) — Caron Texas has launched a young adult program for men, the Dallas area nonprofit addiction treatment center has announced. The program was originally pioneered at Caron’s Pennsylvania facility in 2006 for men between the ages of 18 and 25 who are often “caught” in a developmental phase between adolescence and adulthood.
The Caron Texas Young Adult Male Program is based on the 12-step philosophy and evidence based practices and offers a drug and alcohol assessment that addresses co-occurring psychiatric disorders and complicated family dynamics. Patients participate in individual, group and family counseling, therapeutic activities, informative lectures, and continuing care planning. Specialty groups are also offered for young men within the treatment programs. They focus on topics such as co-occurring compulsive behaviors, anger management, life skills, grief and loss, body image, equine therapy, spirituality and adventure-based counseling.
Each young man works with an integrated multi-disciplinary treatment team dedicated to providing individualized, holistic treatment based on the unique needs of each patient and their family within a gender-separate, gender-specific, and age-specific environment. The team is well versed in disciplines such as medical detoxification, psychiatry, psychology, counseling, spiritual guidance, and nursing.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to offer these unique services to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and beyond,” said Mike Puls, Executive Director of Caron Texas. “These young men are at a complicated age that requires an innovative and age specific approach to treatment. We’ve had tremendous success with the original program in Pennsylvania; since Caron began treating young men over seven years ago, our patients have maintained a 91 percent completion rate. We are looking forward to doing the same in Texas and helping local families.”
Puls emphasizes that treating the family is a critical part of Caron’s approach using proven practices that nurture the body, mind, and spirit. Family members are strongly encouraged to attend the five-day Family Education Program during the course of their son’s treatment stay. The program helps families and patients understand the emotional consequences of addiction, the recovery process, the impact addiction has on the family, and how families get well. Caron’s young adult male program maintains a 98 percent or higher participation in the Family Education Program each month. Parents/participants consistently find the interaction with other parents extremely beneficial and have found great insight into the education surrounding addiction as a disease.
Caron Texas has hired two masters level professionals to oversee the program. Learn more online about the Caron Texas team and services.
