There is an abundance of activity scheduled to place in Historic Downtown McKinney this weekend (Dec. 13-14).

Friday, Dec. 13:

Wrap It Up: Complementary Gift Wrapping services for gifts purchased in Historic Downtown McKinney from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (located on ground level inside MPAC, customers must present receipt at time of request).

Visits with Santa Claus: Visits with Santa will take place at McKinney Performing Arts Center from noon until 1 p.m. If the weather is clear, our guests will spot him on the courthouse lawn.

Youth Ballet of Texas’ Krakatuk: A Nutcracker Prequel: Krakatuk: A Nutcracker Prequel keeps tradition alive with a new twist that includes E.T.A. Hoffmann's original story of how a boy becomes an enchanted piece of kitchenware. Full of Kings, Queens, mice and princesses in distress, Krakatuk is a rollicking answer to all of your Nutcracker questions and a perfect introduction to ballet. Show time is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for students and seniors.

 

Saturday, Dec. 14:

Cocoa and Carols with Children’s Chorus of Collin County: The Children’s Chorus will do three 15-minute sets of music on the Courthouse lawn at MPAC. Times are 2-2:15 p.m., 2:30-2:45 p.m. and 3-3:15 p.m. All times are approximate.

Turtle Creek Chorale: Experience the magic of the season with Turtle Creek Chorale as memories and music are shared in this heartwarming holiday tradition. DecemberSong will feature the season’s most beautiful holiday music coupled with humorous moments to make you smile. Turtle Creek Chorale presents two performances of DecemberSong: A Traditional Holiday Concert. Show times on Saturday are at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. (or after the Holiday Parade of Lights). Tickets are $20 to $30.

McKinney Rotary Christmas Light Parade in Historic Downtown McKinney: The parade will start at 6:30 p.m. Entries must report no later than 5:30 p.m. in the courthouse parking lot on Tennessee St. in Historic Downtown McKinney to begin. As a result, the staging area of Tennessee St. between Davis and Standifer will be closed at 5 p.m.

Inbound traffic to square will be blocked with bollards at 6 p.m. and parade route at 6:15 p.m. The route starts at Tennessee at Davis, heading north to Lamar, then left on Kentucky, left on Standifer and back to the starting area off Tennessee.

Streets will reopen in downtown McKinney once the parade is over and pedestrians have cleared the roadways.

This year's theme is "Twelve Days of Christmas." Judging will be based on many factors including theme, decorations, costumes, lights and enthusiasm.

Second Saturday in Downtown McKinney: Enjoy a fun filled evening of art, shopping, music, food and spirits in downtown McKinney. Guests can explore local art galleries, listen to great local and regional talent and taste some of the area’s best eateries. Many places in downtown McKinney will keep their doors open from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. for this monthly event.
