McKinney Youth Theatre AMP Awards

PLANO — McKinney Youth Theatre (MYT) is excited to host its annual AMP Awards on Feb. 22 at Heard-Craig Hall, 306 North Church Street in McKinney at 6:30 p.m. This event is the theatre’s largest fundraiser each year. It features an “Oscar Night” Theme complete with a red carpet, paparazzi, and more. There will also be a live and silent auction to benefit the theatre, a non-profit organization. This year’s proceeds will benefit MYT’s “There’s No Place Like Home” Capital Campaign.

The pre-event festivities will begin at 4 p.m. when our guests start to arrive for their red carpet walk and limousine photo opportunity. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. The awards ceremony will feature live performances from selected 2013 productions. For the main event, MYT will recognize its youth actors in three divisions (Junior Division: 4rd Grade & Below, Intermediate Division: 5th-7th Grade, Senior Division: 8th Grade & Above). Actors will be recognized in a variety of categories such as “Outstanding Actor in a supporting Role”, “Outstanding Villain”, and “Outstanding Actor in a Musical”. After the ceremony, attendees will be treated to a VIP After Party.

The event will also feature an online and live silent auction. Online bidding will be open from Feb. 22 until March 4 at 11 p.m. MYT is actively seeking donations of auction items. Donations should be forwarded to Steve Flad, Auction Committee Chair (, 972-929-0689).

About “There’s No Place Like Home” Campaign

Since its inception, MYT has leased rehearsal and performance space on an ad-hoc basis. However, securing enough time at suitable locations to accommodate the increasing demand for MYT programs has become an insurmountable challenge. The “There’s No Place Like Home” campaign seeks to raise just over $75,000 to transform a leased property of approximately 5400 sq. ft. into a fully functioning theater center complete with a 250 seat performance space, three rehearsal studios, a costume closet, an office, storage, and restroom facilities.
