Almost one-half of the 100-plus homes in McKinney’s Tucker Hill neighborhood development decorated for their Second Annual “Patriotic Porch” contest, in celebration of our nation’s Independence Day.

Over 140 people voted on-line for their favorite and Southern Land Company, the community’s developer, is pleased to announce the first place winner is the home of Mike and Beth Porter, with second place going to Andrew and Emily Kissel.

In addition to this local contest, the Porter’s home was also featured on the national website front-porch-ideas-and-more.com. This website hosted another friendly competition between this Tucker Hill winner and the winner of another Southern Land Company community, Westhaven, located in Franklin, Tenn.. Once again, the Porter’s home received the majority of the over 300 on-line votes that were cast.

“We are so happy to have been able to represent our home in this contest,” said Mike Porter, owner of the winning home. “When we designed the elevation of our home with Southern Land and our builder, Darling Homes, we did so with fun decorating opportunities such as the 4th of July, Halloween, Christmas, etc. in mind. We love how festive the neighborhood looks on all of these holidays and have really loved being a part of such a wonderful porch community. Thank you to Front Porch Ideas and More for hosting the contest and thank you to Tucker Hill and our neighbors for making our house a home.”

Tucker Hill is not only known for its “front-porch lifestyle,” but also for homes that are reminiscent of historical neighborhoods as well as colorful landscaping and mature, tree-lined streets. The community will decorate again for fall and Halloween as well as for the Christmas holidays. Both Darling Homes and David Weekley Homes maintain fully decorated model homes in the community that are open 7 days a week.
