Try these unique destinations when you visit Historic Downtown McKinney:

DOOZIE’S CORNER

A quaint spot with a collection of boutique-style merchants housed under one roof, Doozie’s Corner recently relocated to 208 E. Louisiana St. Your eyes are drawn first to the original hardwood floors and eventually wander up to the high antique ceiling. You notice a white picket fence that wraps around the entire second floor of the store, which is decorated with so much unique merchandise it’s tough to decide where to start your shopping.

Doozie’s Corner is well known for its CeCe Caldwell’s Natural Chalk + Clay Paints. Many of their national retailers travel to this location for workshops and training sessions.

New to Doozie’s Corner is an event room that is available to reserve for a fee. It offers a lovely setting for baby showers, wedding showers, birthday parties or any other special event. Store owners also are working toward adding a “man cave” that will be filled with beverages, Tvs and gift items, a place to escape and have fun.

HOME AND GARDEN TRADING COMPANY

Home and Garden Trading Company

Home and Garden Trading Company, or H & G, is a home design showroom offering a broad selection of higher-end home furnishings, accessories, rugs, lighting, bedding, bath linens, fashion accessories, garden décor and more. Focusing might be a challenge for a lot of shoppers at Home and Garden, located at 101 W. Louisiana St., because there is so much to take in, so many ideas for making your house a home. Eyes dart from floor to ceiling, from rope-wrapped chandelier to Etruscan-inspired garden ornaments. Scanning the store, shoppers will be impressed by the unusual beauty and elegance of many of their items.

Not only does the shop offer home furnishings, but it also has unique fashion accessories, such as necklaces, bracelets and rings. H & G also offers interior design services.

MUNZEE MARKETPLACE

Munzee Marketplace

As you wander to the north side of the downtown square, you’ll notice a new business at 111 E. Virginia St. called Munzee Marketplace, featuring a set of antique tailgate benches lining the sidewalk. Upon entering, customers are greeted with a friendly hello and bright smile. Munzee functions as a modernday convenience store, but it feels a lot like the “general store” of days gone by. Look a little closer, of course, and you’ll find a wide selection of popular snacks for today’s hungry shoppers: coffee and healthy treats, freshly made sandwiches, yogurts, drinks and locally made favorites (or “locavores”), including honey, teas, jellies, salsas, sauces and much more.

Munzee’s is not only a convenience store, but it also offers something quite different for their customers. A 21st century scavenger hunt powered by smart phones and GPS brings visitors from around the country and around the globe.
