Artist Ai Qui Hopen is known nationally for the U.S. Civil Rights monument “Foot Soldiers” located in Birmingham, Alabama
McKINNEY, Texas (Sept. 13, 2019) – The City of McKinney will unveil its newest public artwork at Dr. Glen Mitchell Memorial Park, 300 W. Louisiana St., at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 with a dedication ceremony and appearance by artist Ai Qui Hopen.
Hopen will showcase her Unity Arch, which she says may be interpreted as an ode to nature, but it is also symbolic of human freedom, aspiration and unity. Hopen was the 2013 grand prize winner of a national competition for the U.S. Civil Rights monument “Foot Soldiers” located in Birmingham, Alabama.
The installation is made possible by funding from the Don Day family and the McKinney Arts Commission.
