TV series to be filmed in McKinney
Today I am thrilled to share a once-in-a-lifetime event taking place right here in McKinney, Texas – and YOU need to be there. Some of you may have read the original press release published on McKinney Online in mid-December; if you haven’t, I hope today’s post will make you as excited as I am to attend this spectacular event.
Years ago, LA-based film and television producer Scott Browning envisioned creating a TV series that would bring the often-synonymous relationship between art and food together. After ten years working for Universal Studios under the direction of famed producer Dino De Laurentiis, and later founding Peek-a-Book (a website library of mini films designed to introduce students to exciting new books on their reading level) it was finally time to put this vision to the test in the form of a beautiful exhibition of art and food.
In the Spring of 2018 Browning made Fort Worth the location of his original beta test for the exhibit. Following this beta test, he decided a smaller, more quaint community would be ideal for this type of series. “McKinney was suggested to me by my sister who lives in the DFW metroplex,” Scott explained to me in late December, “and the moment I stepped on the Downtown McKinney Square, my entire vision had a home. Artists and Chefs wasMcKinney.”
After the location was decided, Scott searched for a point of contact in the artist community, someone he referred to as “a local art wrangler” that could put him in touch with other artists in the area. Of course, owner and operator of The Cove – ANNE ROYER – was one such wrangler and the two went to work compiling a list of those who would participate. Along with Anne, artists KIM GUTHRIE, BARBARA MASON, JAMES MASON, MELISSA PATRELLO, TERESA KRIEGER, and LEO MALBOEUF have been selected to transform the event venue, Gather. Using their individual skills and aesthetic, they will enrich the display and atmosphere at Gather to create an “art cocoon”. Curious what’s in store? Beth Shumate of the McKinney CVB (Convention & Visitors Bureau) introduced Browning to several chefs around town; from those introductions, Browning selected three chefs based on talent and collaborative abilities. AARON THOMAS OF ÉCLAIR BISTRO, Jason Ferraro of SUGARBACON and BUTCHERBOARD, and TAYLOR RAUSE OF RYE have all joined the Artists and Chefs team to create a cohesive 4-course meal to be served each night for the duration of the event. “These chefs have collaborated on flavors, colors, and textures that will make the cuisine its own work of art,” Browning said with pride.
