The 3 x 36 Art Show will be opening on Saturday, April 12 at Orisons Art Gallery in Historic Downtown McKinney, featuring the work of local artist L.C. Tobey.
Lillian Celine Tobey, better known as L.C., grew up on the south side of Chicago where she studied art glass under the direction of the late Robert Cooper of Cooper Art Glass. Upon moving to McKinney, Tobey continued her glass studies with Michael Riffkind, Kittrell/Riffkind Art Glass of Addison. She enjoys creating and restoring traditional art glass, fused glass and recycled glass.
Orisons is pleased to feature the newest artwork of Tobey, an innovative artist who also devotes her energies into the growth and development of the arts in North Texas. Tobey is an award-winning glass artist and photographer and co-founder of the Arts and Music Guild. Her fused and stained glass sculptures are shown in private and corporate collections statewide. Recently she was chosen to design the glass sculpture that was given by UT-Dallas to the 2013 Lasker Foundation Award winners for their work in the modern cochlear implant.
“My artwork for this show is playful! It has movement that is reflected in bright colors along with a sense of music in the air,” said Tobey. Three of Tobey’s favorite artist’s, Juan Gris, Picasso and Chihouly, inspires her works of art in “3 x 36!”
Come meet Tobey on opening night (April 12) during McKinney’s Second Saturday event. Wine and Tapa’s will be served from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Her art will be on display at Orisons through April 19.
